5 of the Best Essential Oils for Stress and Anxiety

Living with chronic stress and anxiety can take a toll on your physical health and can affect those closest to you. Mindfulness and meditation practices and talking to a mental health professional may help to lessen your worries and unwind your mind, but scents of aromatherapy essential oils can help promote calm and relaxing feelings.   

 

Here are nine popular scents, with tips on how to use them.

1. Lavender

Lavender is one of the best-known essential oils because it's prized for its calming effects. Lavender oil can be added to a variety of aromatherapy products like bath salts, bath bombs, and massage oil. Diffusing lavender oil before bed can help to calm you and get you relaxed for sleep.

2. Ylang Ylang

Ylang Ylang has been known to inspire and uplift your mood. It's an excellent oil to use in your bath or to add to a carrier oil and use as a massage oil. You can also add a few drops to water in a spray bottle and use it as an air freshener.

3. Orange

Orange essential oil has a sweet, energizing, purifying aroma. Diffuse it to uplift and inspire a positive, joyful mood. Orange essential oil can also help purify and uplift. It blends well with other oils that help with stress like peppermint and cedarwood. You can use it to make room sprays, and diffuse or dilute it when experiencing mental fatigue or needing a boost.

4. Lemongrass

Lemongrass essential oil has a calming, lemony fresh aroma. Diffuse it to inspire mental clarity and awareness. You can also use it as an air freshener by adding a few drops to a spray bottle with water. Diffusing it while studying can help to encourage focus.

5. Peppermint

Peppermint essential oil is cooling and refreshing. Diffuse this strong, minty aroma to boost focus, clarity, and energy. Make bath salts by combining 15-20 drops of peppermint essential oil with 2 tablespoons coconut oil and 2 cups Epsom salt for energized skin.
