Aromatherapy and Cravings

Summer is here and we are all trying to fit back into our swimming suits and shorts that are just a bit tighter than last year.

We have three essential oils that can really help get you back into the swing of things during the summer months.

Stress plays a big part when it comes to how much we eat. When we are stressed, we are more likely to have cravings for quick, unhealthy food.

Did you know that aromatherapy can help uplift and boost your mood? Next time you get a hankering for a bag of chips or a bar of chocolate, think about diffusing or simply smelling these essential oils. These three essential oils can help boost your mood and help you feel energized without having to grab that afternoon snack.

Grapefruit Essential Oil

Grapefruit Essential Oil by Airomé

Grapefruit has been known as the “forbidden fruit” of Barbados. It has an energizing, invigorating aroma that helps to encourage and uplift the mind. The aroma is citrusy and crisp. You can also diffuse it when needing support during monthly cycles or later-in-life changes.

Grapefruit Essential Oil blends well with lavender, peppermint, ylang-ylang, lemon, and orange essential oils.

Cinnamon Essential Oil

Cinnamon Essential Oil by Airomé

Cinnamon Essential Oil helps create a warm and comforting environment when diffused. When diffused, it has been known to help aid in digestion which can help alleviate tummy discomfort.

Cinnamon Essential Oil blends well with clove, ginger, orange, and peppermint essential oils.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint Essential Oil by Airomé

Peppermint Essential Oil is cooling and refreshing. This strong, minty, and sweet aroma helps to boost focus, clarity, and energy. This aroma uplifts your mood which can help you curb those cravings.

Peppermint Essential Oil blends well with lavender, lemon, orange, and cinnamon.

At the end of the day when those hunger pains hit, fill your diffuser with distilled water and diffuse cinnamon, grapefruit, or peppermint, and take long, deep breaths.

How to best use essential oils:

Essential oils are best used as aromatics or applied to the skin with our already diluted essential oil roll-ons. Essential oils can be toxic if swallowed, even if they are pure and organic. If you have sensitive skin, do a skin patch test before using our essential oil roll-ons.

6 Item Checklist for an Easy Back-to-School Transition

Depending on which part of the country you live in, school either just started for you, or is about to start. It’s not too late to get organized for back-to-school to make the transition from summer to school as easy as possible. Check out this back-to-school checklist to help you get ready for the big day!

  • Move Up Bedtime- It’s a good idea to start getting into the swing of things schedule-wise before the first day of school. Start moving up bedtime at least a week before school starts so the kids get use to going to bed and waking up earlier. If they have a rough time with thechange, diffusing lavender oil at bedtime can help promote feelings of sleepiness.
  • Sort Through Clothes- Before you head out the door to do back-to-school shopping, go through the clothes you already have on hand to see what gaps need to be filled. This will not only save you money, it will make the shopping experience more focused and stress-free. Have the kids put on a little fashion show to model what’s currently in their closet. They’ll have fun and you can check for fit.
  • Add School Supplies to Your List- While you’re out shopping for clothes, you might as well pick up school supplies too. If you don’t already have a supply list, email the teachers for one.
  • Plan Lunches and Grocery Shop- Plan out what you need for main courses for lunches, and look for what’s on sale for snack items like fruit cups or granola bars. Don’t forget to make sure everyone who needs a lunch box has one.
  • Make a System for Storing Papers- All those forms your kids will bring home on the first day of school for you to sign are just the start of what could be a year-long struggle. Make a space in your home where the kids can keep papers that need to be signed, other notifications, and homework they’re working on.
  • Sync Your Calendar- Make a habit of sitting down each month and entering school events and notices into your personal calendar. Things get hectic quick, but staying ahead of the game can really reduce stress and mishaps. Set an alarm for early-out days, and a reminder to check your calendar each day to see what’s coming up for tomorrow.

Going back to school is a lot of work, but if you can stay organized, the payoff will be fewer jitters and more confidence for you and your kids on the big day.

Essential Oils for Traveling

Once you get into the habit of using essential oils, they tend to become, well, essential. The thought of leaving home without them starts to feel counterintuitive, but you probably don’t want to bring your whole collection along with you on a trip. Knowing which oils might end up being the most useful while traveling will help you to decide what to bring, and when to use them.

Peppermint Oil– Traveling can make you experience all kinds of unpleasant feelings. Eating out, trying new foods, and riding on planes, boats and cars can all be unsettling for your stomach. Muscle and joint stiffness and fatigue will often take their toll too. Diffusing peppermint can help to ease some of these feelings, and leave you re-energized and ready to have some fun.

Lavender Oil- Nothing wreaks havoc on a schedule like traveling, and getting good rest on a trip can be difficult. If you’re missing your own bed, and feeling some stress, try diffusing lavender at bedtime.

Breathe In- Sharing a hotel room with your family’s loudest snorer, combined with dried out sinuses from airplanes and air conditioning can make clear airways seem unattainable. Diffusing our Breathe In blend can promote feelings of easy breathing for everyone in the room.

Guard Against- Close quarters, recirculated air, hand rails, and public bathrooms can make even the most open person feel a little invaded by unseen threats. Diffuse our Guard Against blend to purify the air and uplift the body.

Traveling with liquids on an airplane can seem intimidating, but as long as you follow TSA’s rules, you don’t have anything to worry about. When packing up your essential oils, keep the following TSA guidelines in mind:

  • All liquids in your carry-on must fit in a quart-sized bag.
  • There is a 3.4 oz (100 ml) per container size limit for individual items.
  • Items that contain more than 3.4 oz of liquid, or that won’t fit in your quart-sized bag, can be taken in your checked baggage.

Combining essential oils with carrier oils in a roller ball container also makes them easy to travel with, and allows you to apply them topically cleanly and quickly. When you follow these easy tips, you can enjoy the full range of aromatherapy benefits, even when you’re on the run.
